Even with the decline in the sales of entry-level hatchbacks, the Swift continues to motor along. It is one of Maruti’s best-selling cars, so it comes as no surprise that the Swift is going to get a new-generation upgrade in 2024. Last year, Maruti launched the new Swift in Japan and then it quickly started testing the car in India. The new Swift gets an updated design, new interiors and to top all that even a new engine engine option. In today’s article, let’s talk about the new Maruti Suzuki Swift.

Exterior Design

New Maruti Suzuki Swift

The overall design of the new Swift is very similar to the current gen model. Maruti is using the philosophy of ‘If it’s not broken, don’t change it’. There are some subtle changes like a larger grille with a honeycomb pattern. The bonnet gets an SUV-like clamshell bonnet with an evident new horizontal shut line. In the side profile, the rear door handles which were previously positioned on the C-pillars, are now moved to the rear doors. Coming to the rear, we have new LED tail lamps and new bumpers.

Interior design

Suzuki has done some major revisions to the interiors. We have a new dashboard which is similar to the Baleno and Fronx. There is a new floating infotainment system giving the cabin a modern look. Another change on the dashboard is rectangular AC vents instead of the current circular ones. Another welcome change is the addition of a dual-tone finish giving the cabin a sense of airiness. HVAC controls also get a new view with proper buttons instead of the current circular pattern. talking about interior space, the Swift hasn’t grown in dimensions. So, we expect a similar space to the current model.

The new Swift comes with a new 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol capable of producing 80 bhp and 108Nm of torque. This new engine is 8bhp less powerful and 5Nm less torque. However, Suzuki is claiming that this new engine will have a major improvement in terms of efficiency and torque. In Japan, Suzuki is also offering a mild-hybrid version of the Swift that adds around 3bhp and 60Nm torque with its DC motor to the specs of pure petrol. The efficiency figure of the standard version is 23.4kmpl, while on the mild-hybrid version it is 24.5kmpl. It remains to be seen if Maruti brings the mild-hybrid setup to India.

Features

The Japanese model of the Swift comes with a lot of features that we think will make their way to India. In India, we could see features like a 9.0-inch infotainment system, connected car technology, blind spot warning, sem-digital instrument cluster and wireless charging. Safety features could include 6 airbags on higher variants, ESC, traction control,
