New Ford Endeavour – Ford is STRUGGLING

New Ford Endeavour

At the moment, Ford has been struggling with its withdrawal of India operations. As its two factories workers have been on strike and this issue not solved, the company has been discouraged by this. The first plant of Ford India has been in Chennai, which is being negotiated by VinFast and rumours that even Tata Motors is interested in it. At the same time, Tata Motors is in the process of taking over their Gujarat plant. At the moment, there is no conformation on when both the plants shall be sold.

This has delayed Ford’s efforts to clear off its two manufacturing plants. Now, this hasn’t put in a good message for the team back in Detroit. Ford has been shutting a lot of its plants worldwide and it has exited many markets. India seems to on the same path as it now looks difficult for them to launch any of its imports.

New Ford Endeavour – What had HAPPENED?

Ford Endeavour

Ford India had actually turned profitable in India pre-COVID and the Gujarat plant was exporting Figo and Aspire to many other countries, which included mostly the South and Latin American countries. Post Covid, many of these economies went into recession and hence the exports reduced drastically.

Second factor was JV with Mahindra. Ford and Mahindra were looking to work together, where Mahindra would own 51% of the Ford India, and the American company would have collaborated with Mahindra to build products on platform sharing. However, Mahindra decided to pull out of this JV and it seemed like Ford did not have a Plan B to save them.

Ford India sales were struggling with its India sales as they had no major product coming up. The losses were very high and were mounting up – leaving Ford with no option to exit India. This shows how competitive the Indian market has become. Have you ever owned a Ford in India? Do you miss it?
