We were expecting a lot of major upgrades on the Toyota Fortuner 2024 – which was due to come in next year, however you might just be disappointed with the changes it has got. There has been an update on this SUV in Thailand and the changes are likely to be similar for India as well. Toyota Fortuner 2024 has been officially revealed in Thailand and how have they built it? Let us find out.

What’s new?

Toyota Fortuner 2024 variant lineup

The new Fortuner now gets more power and technology than before. This SUV in its diesel avatar has been available with a 2.8-litre engine, in 2021 itself the Fortuner got an increase in power with power and torque both increasing. This time again – the power has been increased by 20bhp to 224bhp and torque has been enhanced by 50Nm to 550Nm. This makes it one of the most powerful SUVs in its category. Not that performance has ever been an issue on the Fortuner – however we are never disappointed with more power ever. No talk about any changes in the power for the petrol engine, neither is there any mention of a petrol-hybrid or a diesel-hybrid model.

Toyota Fortuner 2024 – Interior changes

In terms of technology – there has been an upgrade too. On the inside of the Fortuner, there are some minor changes. Like the touchscreen infotainment has now been upgraded to a 9.0-inch one and this even has wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay too. There is also a tyre monitoring system now offered inThailand, which has been available for a while in India. No signs of features like sun roof as the rear AC is still roof mounted. The dashboard is the same – as Fortuner isn’t a new generation. This is more of an upgrade given for the new model year.

Toyota’s plan

Should this be called a Fortuner facelift? No – this isn’t a facelift either. There are no changes to the exterior of the Fortuner, not even the front grille and even the interiors are exactly the same. Toyota needs to upgrade its existing Fortuner and we have been hearing about an all new Fortuner to be made available – however it seems that we might have to wait for a longer time. At the moment, Toyota has been going full guns – as the company has achieved 20,000 units a month benchmark with its new range of vehicles like the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Innova Hycross and other re-badges from Maruti Suzuki be it the Glanza and recently introduced Rumion. Toyota is also planning to launching the new Fronx under the Urban Cruiser brand.

The entire Maruti and Toyota tie-up today has benefited Toyota a lot and at the moment – 2/3 of Toyota’s manufacturing plant capacity in Karnataka, India is used for making of these vehicles alone. This is one BIG BIG Reason – why Toyota is working on an all new SUV – which will be bigger than the Hyryder but smaller than the Innova Hycross in size. So, the price will be about Rs 25 lakhs for it. Toyota has started working on this new SUV already and is working on a 3rd plant in India for this specific SUV itself. Read more on this SUV – in this story.

What do we expect from Toyota in 2024? We are hoping to see more of these re-badges. The Fronx will be the first to join the Toyota fleet and mostly even the Ciaz shall be a part of this. Toyota is already exporting the Ciaz to global markets and it isn’t too far from introducing it in India as well. Toyota does have plans for an all new-gen Fortuner, we expect that to come in late 2024 or early 2025. This will not be called as the Fortuner 2024, it might be called as new Toyota Fortuner 2025 – it will be an all new SUV, more features and Fortuner hybrid engines will be ready too – mostly.
