The Toyota-Maruti partnership is working well for Toyota as the company has witnessed a boost in the overall sales. Toyota Glanza aka Baleno and Toyota Hyryder aka Grand Vitara are two products responsible for a good number of sales. Recently Toyota even launched the MPV, Innova Hycross, which is doing wonders for the brand. However, it is said that Toyota has two major plans for India. What are they? Let’s find out.

New Toyota SUV

Mid size SUVs are one of the key segments in the Indian car market. SUVs like Mahindra XUV 700, Tata Harrier / Safari and even the MG Hector / Hector Plus are some of the best selling SUVs. However, both Toyota and Maruti do not have any offering to compete with mid size SUVs. According to reports, Toyota is planning to enter this new segment with an all new SUV. The new SUV has been codenamed as 340D and is said to be launched in 2026. Other than that we do not have any other information about this upcoming Toyota SUv.

Toyota Planning Third Plant in India

With the launch of the 340D SUV, Toyota believes that it will see a boost in sales. Currently, Glanza and Urban Cruiser Hyryder account for 40% of Toyota’s India sales and it is said that about two-thirds of Toyota’s current production is used by Maruti Suzuki to build vehicles for both brands. So to cater the probable issue of production, Toyota is planning to set up a third manufacturing plant in India. The new plant will help the brand to expand the existing manufacturing capacity of 4 lakh units by 30%. Initially, Toyota is looking for an initial capacity of 80,000-1,20,000 units per year and that could be expanded to 2,00,000 units. The upcoming Toyota SUV 340D would be the anchor product for the new plant.
