The Fortuner rules the full-size SUV segment with an iron fist. Since the discontinuation of Endeavour, Toyota is just minting money with the Fortuner. Toyota is randomly increasing the price of the Fortuner too. So will Toyota continue to have a free run in this segment? No, an upcoming car could take on the Fortuner. This car is the Nissan X Trail. In today’s article, let’s talk about this Rs 40 lakh SUV.

In October Nissan showcased the X-Trail in India. The car showcased by Nissan is the 4th generation of the X-Trail, its latest iteration. This 4th generation X-trail is based on the new CMF-C platform (common module family), co-developed by Nissan, Renault and Mitsubishi. Now talking about the design, the X-Trail is a smart-looking car with the brand’s V-Motion grille. The model showcased in India was the 5-seater one, but the brand will bring the 7-seater to India.

Rs 40 lakh SUV – Interior & features

The X-Trail is one of the premium cars in Nissan’s lineup, and its interiors justify that tag. It comes with a plush interior with soft-touch points. The Fortuner is often criticised for its fewer features, and the X-Trail could add salt to the injury with its features. The X-Trail comes with features like a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, electronic parking brake, auto hold, driving modes, ADAS, panoramic sunroof etc.

Nissan has confirmed the X-Trail is coming to India. It has already started testing the car in India. However, Nissan has refrained from pinpointing an exact launch date. We think the launch could happen sometime in 2023. What about the pricing? Nissan hasn’t confirmed whether the X-Trail will be a CBU or a CKD model. Still, we think the pricing of the X-Trail could start from Rs 35 lakh to 45 lakh (ex-showroom).
