The Toyota Fortuner dominates the full-size in India. There are cars like the Mahindra Alturas G4, MG Gloster and Jeep Meridian, but these cars have not been able to harm the sales of the Fortuner. However, one car that did outsell was the Ford Endeavour. Since its discontinuation, the Fortuner has enjoyed a free run. So was the Ford Endeavour better than Toyota Fortuner? Let’s talk about the dimensions of the Endeavour. The Endeavour was 4,903mm in length, 1,869mm in width and 1,837mm in height. It sits on a wheelbase of 2850mm and a ground clearance of 225mm. In comparison, the Fortuner is 4795mm in length, 1855mm in width & 1835 in height. Road-presence wise, the Fortuner is huge, but the Endeavour was even bigger. The Endeavour was a proper big American SUV.
Endeavour vs Fortuner 2022 – Engine performance
The Endeavour was a workhorse in engine performance. Before BS6 norms, the Endeavour used to come with a 3.2-litre diesel engine. This engine was capable of producing 197bhp and 470Nm of torque. The people using this engine will know how good the engine is in terms of performance. After the implementation of BS 6 norms, Ford replaced the 3.2-litre diesel with a 2.0-litre diesel engine. This engine was also no slouch with 167bhp and 420Nm of torque. Overall this engine of the Endeavour was also quite reliable with not many problems reported.
More features
The Endeavour certainly had better interiors than the Fortuner. Ford used soft touch material on most of the touch points. Not only that feature-wise, it easily trumped the Fortuner. The Endeavour used to come with features like a panoramic sunroof, 8-speaker sound system, 8-inch infotainment system, 4-drive modes, rain-sensing wipers etc. Safety-wise, it used to get 7 airbags, electronic stability control, ABS with EBD and a rear camera.

So was the Endeavour better than the Fortuner? The answer is quite debatable, considering both cars had their plus points. The Endeavour has better road presence & interiors and more features. On the other hand, Fortuner has Toyota reliability, a powerful engine and lower service cost. With Ford gone, the Endeavour has surely been missed in the market. Seeing no competition, Toyota is freely increasing the price of the Fortuner without any consequences.
