Hyundai has been often ridiculed for its average safety ratings. Before the crash test of Verna, its highest-rated car was the 3-star-rated Creta. So, the Verna scoring 5-star rating was a big moment for the brand and also for the buyers. So one question comes to mind, will the Creta also score a 5-star rating? Now, we can’t just crash-test the cars, but we can speculate, right? So let’s talk about Hyundai Creta safety details.

Will it?

The 5-star rating of the new Verna has certainly raised hopes among Creta buyers. The biggest reason is that the Verna shares its platform with the Creta. Hyundai seems to have made some changes to the platform of Verna. Will these changes happen on the Creta facelift too? We certainly hope that Hyundai doesn’t miss out on safety in the Creta facelift. Also, as a brand, it will look quite bad that two cars in similar price ranges have big variations in safety ratings. If we factor in these points, we could see the Creta at least score 4-star in BNCAP testing. A 5-star rating would be icing on the cake, but let’s wait to see what Hyundai does.

Another factor here is the introduction of BNCAP. BNCAP is India’s testing organisation similar to GNCAP. Henceforth, BNCAP will do crash tests and not GNCAP. According to reports, Hyundai has already registered three cars for BNCAP testing. One of them is confirmed to be Tucson, and the other is most likely going to be the Exter. So the third car could be the Creta facelift. Do note that this is just a speculation, and the third car could even be the Venue. But even if it sends the Venue, we can be sure that sooner or later it will test the Creta. It will not look good for the brand that its lower segment car has been tested, but its best seller has not.

The Creta facelift is expected to come with a new exterior design. For the facelifted model, we could see a Palisade-inspired front design with a new DRL design that strikes into the new grille. Other changes include a new headlamp design and front bumpers. In the side profile, we could see a new alloy wheel design. At the rear, we could see rectangular tail lamps similar to Exter. Coming into the interiors, we could see a slightly tweaked dashboard and some subtle changes. New features could include a 360-degree camera, heads-up display, ADAS and digital instrument cluster.

Specifications

The Hyundai Creta facelift is expected to come with the new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine capable of producing 157bhp and 253Nm of torque. Transmission options could include a manual and a DCT gearbox. The facelift will continue with the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine. Transmission options will include manual and automatic options. We don’t expect any tweaks on other mechanical aspects that will be reserved for the Creta N-Line.

Currently, Creta starts from Rs 12.89 lakh and goes to Rs 23.02 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). We can expect a hike of around 50k to 70k, depending upon the variants.
