Toyota’s collaboration with Maruti has been a bittersweet experience for us auto enthusiasts, but for the brand, it has paid rich dividends. It has allowed Toyota to enter the affordable category without any investment. Now Toyota’s next rebadge model is going to be the Taisor. Taisor is going to be the rebadged version of Fronx. This will help Toyota to take on other micro SUVs like Tata Punch, Hyundai Exter etc. In today’s article, let’s talk about this Rs 9 lakh Toyota SUV.

Toyota Taisor

Rs 9 lakh Toyota SUV

Just to clarify, Toyota is yet to officially specify that the upcoming SUV will be named the Taisor. However, there are credible rumours that it could be called Taisor. Like other badged engineered cars, it could get some subtle changes in the exterior. The Taisor could share its design with the Hyryder like Fronx does with the Grand Vitara. We could see a smaller grille and eyebrow DRLs on the Taisor. Other changes could include new headlamps and refreshed bumpers. The side profile should remain the same barring a new alloy wheel design. At the rear, we could see the same design, barring a changed rear bumper.

Specs & features

Barring the design changes, most of the things should remain the same. It will continue with the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine capable of producing 100bhp and 150Nm of torque. This engine will come with a manual and automatic gearbox. While the second engine will be a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol capable of producing 87bhp and 113Nm of torque. Here transmission options include a manual and an AMT gearbox. The Taisor could also come with a CNG option like the Fronx. Feature-wise, the Taisor could come with a 9.0-inch infotainment, ARKAMYs sound system, wireless charging, heads-up display, 6 airbags, 6 speakers, rearview camera, etc.

Rs 9 lakh Toyota SUV – Launch

According to reports, Toyota had plans to launch the Taisor in October 2023. However, there doesn’t seem to be any movement from the brand indicating this is happening. Still, we can expect Toyota to launch the Taisor by the end of this year. What about the pricing? The Taisor could start from Rs 9 lakh and go to Rs 16 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Once launched, it will rival the Tata Punch, Hyundai Exter, Nissan Magnite and also the Maruti Fronx.
