Maruti XL5 2023 – still relevant?

Maruti has launched a sleeve of products in the last few months. It has launched several new SUVs, but the brand knows hatchbacks are still important in the country. On the Arena side of things, Maruti is sorted. However, its Nexa brand is lacking in hatchbacks. It does have the Ignis and Baleno. But it needs something more here. What can it bring? It could bring the XL5 to India. What is the XL5? It will be the premium version of the WagonR. In today’s article, let’s talk about the Maruti XL5 2023. 

Design

As mentioned above, the XL5 was touted to be the premium version of the WagonR. It was even spotted in testing a few times and carried forward the overall boxy silhouette of the WagonR. Changes on the exterior include eyebrow DRLs positioned above the headlamps. Other changes could include the Nexa-blue colour, alloy wheels and a new grille. 

Maruti XL5 2023 – Specifications

The XL5 will be based on the Heartect platform. What about the specifications? It could share its specifications with the WagonR. So we could see a 1.0-litre K10C petrol engine capable of producing 65bhp and 89Nm of torque. The second engine will be a 1.2-litre K12N petrol engine capable of producing 87bhp and 113Nm of torque. We could also see factory-fitted CNG. 

Features

Features have become a defining point in the Indian auto scene. Maruti has figured this out and has loaded its new cars with features. The XL5 could come with features like a Tyre pressure monitoring system, automatic climate control, cruise control and SmartPlay infotainment. What about its safety features? Safety features could include six airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX. 

Maruti XL5 2023 – Launch

There is no official confirmation from Nexa regarding the XL5. However, there is an opening for a premium hatchback in Nexa’s portfolio. The Ignis is not exactly setting the sales chart on fire, and its rumoured facelift also doesn’t seem to be happening. So maybe Nexa can discontinue the Ignis and replace it with the XL5. The XL5 can tap into the popularity of WagonR and bring more customers to Nexa.
