The CNG space has been dominated by Maruti Suzuki in the country. It was the first manufacturer to bring it and currently has the biggest CNG portfolio. Now Tata wants to challenge Maruti by trying something new. This new something is its Twin-cylinder technology that debuted with the Altroz i-CNG. Now we know Tata is bringing the Punch CNG. With the Punch CNG, it is also bringing this technology to the Tiago and Tigor. In today’s article, let’s talk about Tata CNG cars.

Teased

Yesterday, Tata posted its first teaser for the Punch CNG. In this teaser, we have the Punch CNG in the middle. The Punch CNG is flanked by the Tiago on the left and Tigor on the right. We had known about the Punch CNG for some time. However, the Tiago and Tigor CNG come as a surprise. There were rumours about Tata giving the Tiago and Tigor its twin-cylinder technology, but no one expected Tata to launch them with Punch. It seems like Tata is throwing the kitchen sink at the CNG segment by launching three new CNG cars together.

Twin-cylinder technology

Tata showcased its revolutionary Twin-cylinder technology at the Auto Expo of 2023. In this technology, Tata has divided the one big cylinder into two parts and has fitted them below the boot. This leads to fairly usable boot space, the biggest disadvantage of normal CNG cars. What about the spare tyre? The spare tyre is placed under the boot, similar to some of the 7-seater SUVs.

Tata CNG cars – What new things to expect?

One of the obvious changes will be the added boot space in the Tiago and Tigor. Also, we can expect Tata’s CNG-specific features like micro-switch, Thermal incident protection, leak detection, micro-switch and auto switch on these 3 new CNG cars. The Punch could get a sunroof with the CNG update. We don’t think Tiago and Tigor will get any new features. We can expect a Rs 90k to 1-lakh hike on all these cars compared to the similarly specced pure petrol model.
