New CNG cars shown at Auto Expo!

CNG cars have always been popular in the country, but with the rising fuel price, their importance has increased a lot. Now even SUVs are coming with CNG options to compensate for their lower fuel efficiency. At the expo, we saw three new cars with CNG options. In today’s article, let’s talk about these popular CNG cars.

Tata Altroz i-CNG

The Altroz is an important product in Tata’s lineup competing with the likes of the Maruti Baleno and Hyundai i20. Now Tata wants to make the Altroz a more value-for-money option with a CNG setup. Tata showcased the Altroz i-CNG at the Auto Expo. Tata is using a twin-cylinder technology in the Altroz CNG freeing up boot space. The spare wheel is placed below the tanks similar to some of the 7-seater SUVs. Engine-wise, it comes with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol capable of producing 86bhp and 113Nm of torque. Tata is expected to soon launch the Altroz i-CNG.

Popular CNG cars – Tata Punch i-CNG

The Punch is Tata’s micro-SUV that has taken the market by storm. The Punch is raking in close to 10k to 12k sales per month. But like the Altroz, Punch lacked a CNG option till now. However, Tata showcased the Punch i-CNG at the Auto Expo. Like the Altroz i-CNG, it comes with twin-cylinder technology giving it a decent amount of boot space. It also comes with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, the same as the Altroz. Tata is expected to soon launch the Punch i-CNG. 

Maruti Brezza CNG

Maruti has pioneered CNG technology in India. It was the manufacturer that brought CNG to its small hatchback and now it is taking that one step ahead with the Brezza CNG. Maruti showcased the Brezza CNG at the Auto Expo 2023 in a Matte Blue shade. Maruti didn’t reveal the specs, but the Brezza CNG will come with the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine. This engine in its petrol form is capable of producing 101bhp and 136Nm of torque. There are rumours that the Brezza CNG could come with an automatic gearbox option. Maruti could launch the Brezza CNG in the next few months.
