After a long wait from the Indian car manufacturer, Maruti finally showcased its first EV concept, the eVX in January this year during the Auto Expo. Six months later, this EV has been spotted on test for the first time. Although the car will be built in India, the first-ever spy shots of this new EV have been taken in Krakow, Poland. That’s not as surprising as it sounds as Toyota has a vehicle manufacturing plant in Poland. It is the first born-EV car from Maruti which will share its platform with other electric cars of Maruti and Toyota. The production-ready cars will be manufactured in the Gujarat plant for both domestic and international sales. In this article, we will get into further details about this new Maruti EV.

What is Maruti eVX?

The most anticipated electric SUV from the Maruti has been spied on for the very first time. Maruti eVX, codenamed YV8 will be the first-ever electric SUV from Maruti. With the well-known partnership with Toyota, the SUV will make its way into Toyota’s portfolio as well. Once under production, Maruti eVX will measure around 4.3 metres in length and have an impressive wheelbase of 2,700 mm.

We really cannot conclude much from the spy shots as the car is heavily covered in black camouflage. What we can conclude is the car spied seems to be very much similar to the concept car, which we generally don’t see with Maruti as they have always disappointed buyers with the difference in their concept and production car. Being a test car the front gets unfinished headlamps setup and an upright bonnet along with an EV styled closed off grille. It does have some similarities to the concept car.

We can see the wide stance of the SUV and the muscular shoulder lines seems to merge neatly at the rear. From the side, the roofline appears to be sloping to give it a coupe-like SUV styling. On the other hand, the car might feature connected LED tail lamps as seen on many modern ICE and electric cars.

Along with the exteriors, we have got a sneak peek of the interiors as well. The dashboard placement looks tall with a twin-screen setup which supposes to house a digital instrument cluster and a touchscreen system. Talking about other elements, we can see vertically styled AC vents, a floating centre console with a rotary dial that could be a driving mode selector and a set of buttons in the centre. Surprisingly, the steering wheel looks completely different than any other current Maruti car and gets a unique two-spoke design.

Features

The elements on the interior seem to be taken from the Toyota as they look very different from that of the Marutis. Features like 360 cameras, frameless IRVM and advanced technology like ADAS are likely to come in the new SUV. However, it will be interesting to see if Maruti offers the level 2 ADAS or the level 1.

Specifications & Launch details

Powering the SUV will be a 60kWh battery that claims a range of 550km. And as per the reports, the production version of the SUV will have a similar capacity battery pack that will be capable to return a real-world range of 450-500km. There will be a base variant that will house a smaller battery pack with a capacity of 48kWh and a real-life range of around 400km. As of now, the SUV is in the testing phase and both Maruti and Toyota versions of the SUV will be launched two years from now, sometime in 2025.
