The EV segment in India is growing at a steady pace. However, the potential is unlimited with the EV tech developing at a rapid pace. This has attracted several foreign companies like BYD to India. Still, Indian customers have been eagerly waiting for Tesla in the country. Last year, these plans hit a major roadblock, almost ending Tesla’s dream. Now, new hopes have reignited about Tesla’s Indian entry. In today’s article, let’s talk about Tesla India 2023.

New plans

Tesla India 2023

Earlier this month, Tesla officials again visited India to try and find a middle ground for the brand. The Indian government has stated that it will only allow Tesla in India if they manufacture in the country. Earlier, Tesla was not so keen on this idea. However, now Tesla is seriously thinking about setting up a factory in India. This information was conveyed to the media by Rajeev Chandrasekhar, India’s deputy minister for technology.

Hurdles faced

The main hurdle for Tesla has to be the high import taxes in India. So if Tesla brings an imported car it will be out of reach for most people and would not make business sense for the brand. Elon Musk has been asking the government to exempt this charge from Tesla. But the government has clearly stated that it will not give special concessions to one manufacturer. The government has stated that Tesla is welcome to set up shop in the country but will not be allowed to import cars from China to sell here.

This development looks like a positive one, but still, these are just talks. It remains to be seen if anything concrete happens to it. But we certainly hope that Tesla finds an amicable solution. Moreover, everyone has eagerly been waiting for Tesla’s India entry and this sentiment could really work in the favour of Elon Musk and Tesla.
