The Thar has always been a cult classic SUV in the Indian market. With the newer generation, Mahindra has even increased its sales. Mahindra now wants to extract even more from the Thar. As we know it is working on the 5-door version of the Thar. This Thar 5-door version is going to be more powerful and also gets several new things. In today’s article, let’s talk about the 2024 Mahindra Thar 5-door.

Engine specifications

Mahindra has confirmed that the Thar 5-door will be based on the modified ladder-on-frame chassis used on the Scorpio-N. We expect the Thar 5-door to get similar specifications to the Scorpio. So we expect a 2.0-litre petrol (200bhp/370Nm) and a 2.2-litre diesel engine (172bhp/370Nm). This will make the Thar 5-door considerably more powerful than the normal Thar. The transmission option will include a manual and automatic gearbox. 

What else will be improved?

Mahindra is also expected to update the exterior design of the Thar 5-door. It could get a different air dam and bumpers compared to the normal Thar. In the interiors, Mahindra could change the upholstery and also the dashboard layout. What about new features? We don’t expect many new features on the Thar 5-door. Rather Mahindra could give it some more useful features. We could see a bigger glovebox, more storage spaces etc.

2024 Thar 5-door – Launch timeline

Mahindra has been quite tight-lipped on the launch timeline of the Thar 5-door. Due to this a lot of rumours about its timeline have surfaced online. We expect Mahindra to launch the Thar 5-door sometime in 2024. Though there is a slight chance that Mahindra could launch it by the end of 2023. What about pricing? Mahindra could price it around Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh more than the normal Thar.
