The Creta is Hyundai’s cash cow in the Indian market. It has single-handedly made the C-SUV segment one of the most profitable in the country. As a product, the Creta is known for its wide engine and transmission options, but the Creta still misses one thing. What is this thing? It is a CNG option for mileage-conscious buyers. So is it a possibility? In today’s article, let’s talk about the Creta CNG.

A CNG option

Creta CNG

The Creta gives decent mileage on its petrol engine, but it’s not the best in its segment. Creta has that diesel engine going in its favour, but there comes the question of the upcoming emission norms. So the next best option is CNG. Hyundai seems to know this and the Creta CNG was even spotted testing.

Turbo CNG?

Last year, the Carens CNG was spotted testing with the 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine. Now Hyundai has discontinued this engine, but the brand could have gathered valuable data with this CNG. So Hyundai could give the CNG option on the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine. The other option is to give the CNG on the upcoming 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine on the Creta. We will have to wait to see what Hyundai does with the Creta. However, with the rising competition, a CNG option seems quite a viable option.

Creta CNG – Will it ever happen?

Creta CNG

This is a tough question to answer. Hyundai is yet to speak anything about the Creta CNG. But the Creta has been spotted testing with an ARAI emission kit. This test model could have been the CNG or just the new 1.5-litre turbo petrol. With the Grand Vitara and Urban Cruiser Hyryder getting CNG, Hyundai could also bring the Creta CNG.  So, only time will tell whether we get to see a Hyundai Creta CNG or not, however, it is a possibility.
