This Tata hatchback to take on Maruti
Even with the SUV craze gripping the country, hatchbacks continue to be a popular option. Maruti rules the roost in this aspect with its hatchback lineup. Tata is catching up with the Tiago and Altroz. The Tiago comes with a CNG option, but Altroz missed out on one. Tata gave us a glimpse of the Altroz i-CNG at the Auto Expo. In today’s article, let’s talk about the Tata Altroz i-CNG.
Design
The Altroz i-CNG doesn’t get any major changes on the exterior. We have a bold front design paired with sharp headlamps and an aggressive grille. The side profile is also identical with no major changes. At the rear, we have an i-CNG badge, the only indication of its CNG setup.
Specifications
The Tata Altroz i-CNG continues with the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine. In its petrol guise, this engine is capable of producing 84bhp and 113Nm of torque. So will there be any performance drop? Unlike other CNG cars, Tata cars don’t have a performance drop in CNG modes. The transmission option will only be the 5-speed manual option.
Interior and features
The Tata Altroz i-CNG doesn’t see any changes in the interiors, but there are two new features. One is a sunroof and the second is 6-airbags. With its 5-star safety ratings and 6 airbags, the Altroz i-CNG could further stamp its authority as the safest hatchback in the country. Other features on the Altroz i-CNG will be 7.0-inch infotainment, automatic climate control, Harman sound system etc. The Altroz i-CNG also comes with the twin cylidner technology. What does it offer? It offers a usable boot space with cylinders placed under the bootspace.
Pricing and launch
Tata did showcase the Punch i-CNG at the expo, but it didn’t specify any launch timeline. According to rumours, Tata could launch the Altroz i-CNG in mid-2023. Which variants will get it? Tata could offer the Altroz i-CNG on the mid and top variants as it does on its other cars. The Altroz i-CNG will rival the Maruti Baleno CNG.
