New affordable Maruti EVs in the works!

Affordable cars for the mass Indian buyers have always been the forte of Maruti Suzuki. The brand has an extensive range of cars which have proven their popularity by shining on the sales chart. This economical aspect of the brand has made sure that it maintains the top position in the market. Now, that the EV waves have started to hit the shore, we can see that Maruti is gearing up to debut in this category. We saw the eVX at the Auto Expo which is set to reveal in the year 2025 but there’s more. We are talking about 2 new affordable Maruti EV which are set to shake the market. Let’s know more about these new EVs.

Affordable Maruti EV – WagonR

WagonR is a top seller car for the brand which is renowned for its highly reliable engine and affordable spares. Now, after the revealing of Maruti’s 6 EV plan by 2030, we can clearly state that the WagonR EV is on the line to launch in the upcoming years. As per this plan, there are 6 cars that could be launched by the year 2030. Aiming towards powertrain share of 15% for BEV, 60% for ICE and 25% for Hybrid cars, the WagonR EV is one of the cars in the plan. No official timeline has been declared by the brand for the launch. But, the frequent testing of the car on the Indian tarmac could lead towards the launch soon. If launched, the WagonR EV is likely to be the entry-level EV model from the brand. The pricing of the car could be in tandem with other EV hatchbacks on sale like the Tiago EV and Citroen eC3.

Affordable Maruti EV – Hustler 

The Hustler is a Kei car which is likely to go under electrification in the upcoming years. Suzuki as well as Mazda sells this crossover-looking Kei model in global markets. Now, in Maruti’s future EV plan, the silhouette of this car has raised the possibility that Maruti Suzuki is bringing the Hustler EV to the market. It is likely to use the same technicals as the Wagonr EV thereby keeping the prices in check. However, this car could be launched after the WagonR EV somewhere around 2026 to 2030. Moreover, we could also see the Fronx EV near the same timeline.
