Mahindra is absolutely killing it in the SUV segment. In the last two-three years, Mahindra has launched a range of new SUVs like Thar, XUV700 and Scorpio-N. Mahindra is not stopping on this and has plans to bring more SUVs. Its next SUV is going to be the 5-door version of the Thar. So what will Mahindra name it? Just adding a 5-door prefix will not do justice to this SUV. In today’s article, let’s talk about the Mahindra Thar 5-door.
Mahindra Thar 5 door – Names
The Mahindra Thar nameplate is quite unique and iconic in the Indian market. But the Thar nameplate resembles more of a compact off-roader. It would not suit that much on the Thar 5-door. Mahindra will need a different name for the Thar 5-door. So what could Mahindra name it? A name that straight away comes to mind is Armada. The Armada nameplate holds a rich history based on the original ‘CJ-5 Jeep’. It will also make sense on the Thar 5-door considering its size and capabilities.
Expectations
Mahindra Thar 5-door is going to be huge for the Indian automaker. The brand which is known for its heavily loaded SUV lineup, this new 5-door iteration would take it to another level. We are talking about the iconic Thar badge which has increased its practicality quotient. The new 5-door model would cater to multiple buyers who were lurking the car due to its space limitations. This new model is set to get rear doors, an increased wheelbase over the current car and also the addition of creature comforts.
The 5-door model has been spotted testing on Indian roads which portrays a possibility to get updated interiors. From the spotted images, we could see a big centre armrest with storage, faux carbon fibre trim on the dashboard, etc. Another highlight is the better rear seat space which offers better legroom now.
Mahindra Thar 5 door – Specifications
The Thar 5 door is based on the modified version of the Scorpio-N chassis. So, what could you expect? We are talking about more compliant rides with reduced body rolls. Apart from this, we are also expecting to see some offroad capabilities to stay true to the ‘Thar’ moniker. What about the engine? There are high chances that the car could get the same 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine (200bhp/370Nm) and 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine (172bhp/370Nm) which is available in the Scorpio-N.
Launch
The launch of the car is expected in the second half of this year. Looking at the number of times it gets spotted, Mahindra might be readying the car for a grand unveil.
