Should Fortuner buyers consider an Innova?
The Innova HyCross is launched in India with prices starting from Rs 21.89lakh (on-road, Mumbai). If we talk about its fully loaded variant which comes with all the bells and whistles comes at a price tag of Rs 34.68 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) for the ZX(O) variant. Now that the HyCross is in the market with plenty of features and also mileage, Do you think Toyota Fortuner could face a threat? Is it sensible to buy the HyCross over Fortuner? Let’s know more.
Innova HyCross Vs Fortuner – Design
If we talk about the newly launched vehicle, it is certainly an MPV rather than an SUV. However, the looks of this car convey a different message. The HyCross looks bold and stylish from every angle. The front look of the car is largely taken over by the large grille which sits in between the sharp-looking tail lamps. If we move towards the side, we are greeted with flared wheel haunches and a rather muscular-looking side profile. The dimensions of the car are measured at 4755mm in length, 1850mm in width and 1795mm in height. The wheelbase of the car measure 4,850mm. It gets a boot space of 300 litres with all the third rows up.
The Fortuner has always stayed renowned because of its macho design. The car sits tall at a ground clearance of 225mm. Dimensions of the car measure 4795mm in length, 1855mm in width and 1835mm in height. It is greater in these measures but the wheelbase of the Fortuner is shorter than the HyCross at 2745mm. Talking about Fortuner’s design, it looks like a proper rugged SUV in all aspects. It gets 18-inch fat tyres with large tyre profiles, footrests to climb up inside the car, roof rails and body cladding around the car.
Innova HyCross Vs Fortuner – Features
The Innova HyCross certainly wins the game in terms of features. The HyCross is now the most loaded Innova on offer with features like a panoramic sunroof, Ottoman seats, ambient lighting, wireless charging, a large infotainment screen, dual-zone automatic AC, ventilated seats, electric seat adjust, quilted leather seats, ADAS and many more.
If we compare it with the Fortuner, it is also a loaded car in the Legender edition. Though it lacks some features which are present in the Innova HyCross. For starters, it doesnt get a panoramic sunroof, ADAS, Ottoman seats and many more which are present in Innova. But, what it gets is heat rejection glass, a JBL sound system, connected car technology, an 8.0-inch infotainment system, wireless charging and more.

The Innova HyCross is available with two engine options. It gets a 2.0-litre pure petrol (172bhp/205Nm) paired with a CVT automatic transmission. Moreover, we also have the same engine paired to a strong hybrid setup wherein it produces 183bhp with an engine torque of 188Nm and motor torque of 206Nm. These two engine options are petrol powered only and you only get the choice of CVT auto gearbox.
If we come to the Fortuner, you get a 2.7-litre petrol (164bhp and 245Nm) engine paired to a 5-speed manual or a torque convertor AT gearbox. Then, if you want to go for diesel, you have the 2.8-litre diesel engine paired with a 5-speed manual (201bhp and 420Nm) transmission or a torque convertor AT gearbox (201bhp and 500Nm).
Innova HyCross Vs Fortuner – Which one to choose?
As aforementioned, the pricing of Innova HyCross is way lesser if we compare it to the Fortuner. Though the cars are categorised for different buyers because the Fortuner comes with 4×4 capabilities and is more inclined towards offroading with its ladder frame chassis and other mechanicals. On the other hand, the HyCross is a monocoque MPV with a focus towards comfortable seating and economical drive.
You can consider the HyCross by saving some bucks and at the same time get more features and technology in the car. However, if you are the buyer who is getting the Fortuner for its bold stance and macho appearance, no other car can match its swag and give you attention. The pricing of the Fortuner starts at Rs 38.92lakh for petrol manual (on-road, Mumbai) and goes all the way to Rs 60.86lakh (on-road, Mumbai) for the GR-Sport.
