Nissan kickstarted its India operations in the year 2005. Its journey began in the land of diversity with a very popular global product called the ‘X-Trail’. Years went by and this car was on sale until 2014 when the competition was rife with other potential products. Fast forward to 2022, when SUVs are becoming the bread and butter for brands, Nissan India is all set to bring the ‘X-Trail’ nameplate back onto the Indian Shores. Does it have the DNA of the original car? Let’s take a look at the new 2023 Nissan X-Trail.

Globally the X-Trail comes with pure petrol as well as a hybrid powertrain setup. The same setup is brought in India which would create a new hybrid option in this segment. You also get 2WD as well as AWD powertrain options. Talking about its powertrain setups, it gets a single 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine in 3 different hybrid setups. A mild hybrid, a 2WD ‘e-POWER’ variant, and an ‘e-4orce’ version which gets ‘e-POWER’ as well as a dual motor setup for its AWD drivetrain.

The former 1.5-litre petrol hybrid engine makes 188 bhp and 250Nm of torque. The 2WD ‘e-POWER’ generates 201bhp and 330Nm of torque, and the top-of-the-line AWD ‘e-4orce’ makes 210bhp and a peak torque of 525Nm. Transmission options are only limited to a CVT automatic gearbox.

What is Nissan ‘e-POWER’?

In this setup, the power is channelled to the wheels only via the electric motor. The engine is not directly responsible for powering the wheels. Then why does it have an ICE engine? The work of the engine only comes into play to charge the battery. The engine is only responsible for acting as a generator to charge the battery. The size of the battery pack in ‘e power’ is also large when compared to conventional hybrid cars.
