In 2022 Kia entered the EV space with the EV6. The EV6 is the brand’s flagship EV for now. But Kia is working on the EV9 that will sit above the EV6. Kia showcased the EV9 concept at the Auto Expo 2023. So will the EV9 come to India? In today’s article, let’s talk about this next Kia EV.

Kia grabbed limelight with the EV9 concept at the Auto Expo. The EV9 is one of the most advanced concepts from Kia. It is often referred to as the electric telluride due to its big, boxy nature. Kia is already testing the production version of the concept in South Korea. The brand has tried its best to retain some elements of the concept like vertically placed DRLs and a flat bonnet. The alloy wheel design is heavily inspired by the concept car. 

Next Kia EV – Specifications

The Kia EV9 is based on Hyundai & Kia’s E-GMP platform. This platform is shared by the EV9 with the IONIQ 7. What about the motor and range? The Kia EV9 could share its powertrain options with the Hyundai IONIQ 7. Reportedly, the IONIQ 7 will be offered in single-motor RWD and dual-motor AWD variants, with the AWD packing 308bhp. Range-wise, it is confirmed to get a claimed range of 540km and will be able to travel 100km in just 6 mins of charging. 

Features

The Kia EV9 will sit above the EV6 in the brand’s electric product lineup. So it is sure to get the flagship treatment. Reportedly, the Kia EV9 could get a smart glass, new-age connected, level-3 autonomous driving, fingerprint reader etc. Also, the EV9 could get wireless vehicle charging. It will be the first car to get this feature with the IONIQ-7.

Next Kia EV – Could it come to India?

Kia is currently testing the production version of the EV9 in South Korea. According to Korean blogs, Kia plans to launch it in the first half of 2023. Will it come to India? There is no official confirmation, but Kia did showcase the concept in India, so there is hope. Kia could bring the EV9 in limited numbers, just like it did with the EV6. The EV9 could come to India by 2025. Pricing-wise, it could be priced higher than the EV6.
