The Indian 2-wheeler market is one of the largest one in the world. Most of the sales are driven by affordable commuter bikes. Hero and Honda both know the game quite well, but Hero has always been able to edge past Honda. Honda is working on a new affordable bike that will help it take on the Splendor. In today’s article, let’s talk about Honda’s affordable bike.

Why a 100cc bike?

Honda affordable bike

Honda Motorcycle is working on a new 100cc motorcycle. So why a 100cc bike? Honda has a presence in the 125cc segment, but not in the 100cc segment. So Honda wants to enter the 100cc segment to carve a new customer base. This will help Honda to target the rural parts of India. Another thing Honda wants to do is to reduce the dominance of Hero in this segment. Honda will be banking on its reliability, cheap service costs, good suspension and handling.

Specifications

Honda is yet to reveal anything about this 100cc engine. Currently, Honda has two motorcycles in the 110cc segment. This engine is capable of producing 8.7bhp and 9.3Nm of torque. So this new engine will deliver less power than its 110cc engine. However, Honda will be looking to extract maximum mileage from this bike as mileage remains a vital aspect in this segment. We can expect a mileage of 65kmpl to 70kmpl.

Honda’s 100cc bike will compete with the Splendor, HF Deluxe, Bajaj Platina etc.
