The Japanese automaker has had a stronghold in the two-wheeler segment for many years now, thanks to its Activa. With the EV craze going up every day, the brand is looking to launch new EVs in the country. With the testing of its Benly-E in India, it could be Honda’s first EV in the market. The brand has forayed its plans to launch several EVs and flex-fuels two-wheelers by 2025. It also plans to bring its first electric two-wheeler somewhere around early 2023. However, there’s one more popular brand that is all set to bring its new EV next month. And this product is expected to take the market by storm. Which is this brand? How will it rival Honda Activa Electric? Let’s dive into it.

As per Hero MotoCorp, the unveiling of its new electric two-wheelers has been delayed due to supply chain issues and semiconductors shortages. Earlier it had the plan to make its electric debut on the 1st of July, but finally after a long delay, the brand has confirmed the launch of its first EV that will take on strong competitors like Ola and Ather.

It will enter the EV segment under ‘Vida’ electric brand. India’s largest two-wheeler producer has announced that it will be launching its first EV on October 7. The launch of this new EV would be a part of Hero’s 10th-anniversary celebrations.

Hero MotorCorp will brand its electric range under the ‘Vida’ brand. Under this moniker, it would launch various affordable EVs that take up a fight against the TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak, Ola S1, and more. Earlier, the brand had made some arrangements with a Taiwanese battery manufacturer named Gogoro for EV development and swappable battery packs. Could this new EV range adopt it? Only time could tell.

After its launch, we can expect the EV game to spread more vastly looking at Hero’s bandwidth.

How could Honda Activa lose its advantage?

Honda Activa is a household name in India. Most of the country is well-aware with the product and the brand. Honda could have used this popularity to bring in the Activa electric, grabbing a major chunk of the market share. However, with Hero MotoCorp, India’s largest two-wheeler maker, entering the race, Honda could lose its advantage that it had with the Activa moniker and give it away to Hero. Vida’s electric scooter could definitely lead the segment once it launches, given Hero MotoCorp’s reach in the country.

As far as Honda is concerned, the brand has already completed the feasibility study for its first electric scooter for India. According to reports, the first electric scooter will aim at a top speed of 60kmph and will be priced below the Activa.
