The Thar 5-door has gotten everyone intrigued by its potential. The Thar 3-door is already such a well-rounded product with modern elements combined with its off-roading capabilities. Only thing lacking in the 3-door version is practicality, which will be addressed by the 5-door variant. This will make the Thar 5-door a proper family off-roader. Mahindra will be trying to keep it simple with the Thar 5-door. We think Mahindra could just offer one variant on the Mahindra Thar 5-door. It will help the brand to keep confusion down. That one variant could only come with a 4×4 setup, as the Thar is known for its 4×4, and it would not make sense for Mahindra to remove it. This will further be divided into petrol and diesel with further divisions for manual and automatic. So all in all the Thar 5-door could come with a petrol manual, petrol automatic, diesel manual and diesel automatic variants. What are your thoughts about this?
What else do we know?
The Thar 5-door will be based on the modified ladder-on-frame chassis like the Scorpio-N. Design-wise, it could get some subtle changes on the exterior, as we have seen in the spy shots. What about the engine specifications? It could share its engine option with the Scorpio-N. So we could see a 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine capable of producing 200bhp and 370Nm of torque. While diesel duties could be handled by the 2.2-litre mHawk engine capable of producing 172bhp and 370Nm of torque. Additional features could include a bigger glovebox, rear wiper, electric sunroof etc.

There is a lot of confusion regarding the launch timeline of the Thar 5-door. Earlier, we thought Mahindra could launch the car in the second half of 2023. However, new reports have claimed that Mahindra could only unveil the car in 2023 and launch a year later. We however think the launch should happen by the end of 2023.
