Mahindra’s popularity in the SUV segment has soared to new heights in the last few years. The launch of the Thar in 2020 was the catalyst for this growth. With the Thar, hardcore off-roading became affordable. But the Thar is not practical for daily usage, and to solve this issue Mahindra is working on a bigger Thar called the Thar 5-door. We have written a lot about the Thar 5-door, and now we have obtained new spy shots revealing some interior bits of the car. In today’s article, let’s talk about the Mahindra Thar 5-door interior.

Spy shots!

These spy shots were posted on the Instagram page of autojournal_india. The car is covered in heavy camouflage, but it is easy to figure out this is the Thar 5-door. What new can we spot? With the open door, we do get a sneak peek into the cabin. We can spot the grab handle light and black-coloured seats. Exterior-wise, the car looks identical to the normal Thar barring the extended row!

What else do we know?

The Thar 5-door will be based on the modified ladder-on-frame chassis like the Scorpio-N. Design-wise, it could get some subtle design changes over the regular Thar. What about engine specifications? It could share its engine option with the Scorpio-N. So we could see a mStallion (2.0-litre petrol) producing 200bhp and 370Nm of torque. While diesel duties will be handled by the mHawk (2.2-litre), producing 172bhp and 370Nm of torque. Additional features on the Thar 5-door could include a bigger glovebox, rear wiper, reverse parking camera etc.

Earlier, the Thar 5-door was expected to be unveiled at the Auto Expo of 2023. However, Mahindra has decided to skip Auto Expo 2023. Mahindra has taken this decision as it doesn’t have any new concepts to display. So when can we expect the Thar 5-door? Mahindra might directly unveil the Thar 5-door in the second half of 2023. Could it be on the 15th of August like the 3-door Thar and XUV700? Only time will tell.
