India’s largest car maker brought the Ertiga back in 2012. Since then the Ertiga has become a well-known badge in the affordable MPV segment. Then came the Kia Carens which managed to create some trouble for the Ertiga. However, 2 more Maruti Ertiga rivals are soon to come which could completely take away its charm. Which are these 2 cars? Let’s find out.

Maruti Ertiga rivals – Hyundai Stargazer

The South Korean automaker is expected to bring its affordable MPV which is already being sold in Indonesia. This new MPV is called the Stargazer which is based on the K2 platform (also used in Creta, Alcazar, i20, etc). If we talk about its styling, it is based on the new Hyundai design language. Its distinctive ‘parametric grille’ is visible at the front and if we move to the sides we can see its curvy design with a short bonnet line. The overall look of the car is more towards the MPV side and does not resemble an SUV.

Moving on to its interiors, it is likely to be practical. So, we can expect rear AC vents, wireless charging, rear charging ports, and an ample amount of cubby spaces. Moreover, you could get a 10.25inch infotainment system, and a similar steering wheel and gear knob like the Creta. Under the hood, we can expect similar powertrain options like the Kia Carens. So, 1.5-litre petrol, 1.4-litre turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine could be on offer.  What about pricing and launch? The Auto Expo 2023 could be the perfect venue for its launch and also seeing Caren’s success, Hyundai might try to bring it in a similar price bracket.

Maruti Ertiga rivals – Citroen C3 MPV

Citroen is planning to bring an MPV which is likely to take adaptations from the C3 hatchback. Just like the C3, it would be using the same CMP platform but would sit larger than the C3. Other design cues like the split headlamp setup, body cladding, and wide fenders are expected to protrude to offer an SUV stance. The car is spotted in our country with heavy camouflage so we can’t say much about its styling. Getting inside the car, we could see some practical bits like a rear parking camera, wireless charging, auto-dimming IRVM, and increased storage places for enhancing the practicality of the car.

Now, let’s talk about its engine options. As this is going to be an MPV with 3-row seating, its powertrain has to be apt considering the size of the vehicle. So, what Citroen could do is it can give the C3-based MPV the 1.2-litre turbo petrol (109bhp and 190Nm of torque) engine seen on the C3. What about launch and pricing? Citroen is currently focusing on its C3 EV. SO, this new MPV is slated after the launch of the EV. Therefore, we are expecting it to launch at the end of 2023. Pricing could start around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
