The people-mover category has always been popular in India. Historically, Maruti and Toyota have held a lion’s share in this segment. But now other manufacturers like Kia have tried breaking this monopoly. It’s fair to say, the Carens has found decent success. Seeing this, Hyundai could also join in the party with the Stargazer. So when is Hyundai bringing the Stargazer to India? In today’s article, let’s talk about Hyundai Stargazer in India.

Hyundai Stargazer India launch

Earlier this year, Hyundai launched the Stargazer in Indonesia. After that, it launched Stargazer in Vietnam and the Philippines. So will it come to India? There is no official confirmation from Hyundai, but the success of Carens could attract Hyundai to this segment. The Stargazer could see more success than the Carens considering Hyundai’s better reach. The Auto Expo of 2023 could be the perfect time for Kia to unveil the car in India.

Design

The Stargazer is quite a unique-looking car with LED DRL running across the bonnet. Below the DRLs, we have Hyundai’s new ‘Parametric grille’ flanked by LED headlamps. Overall the Stargazer looks more like an MPV than a 7-seater SUV. Coming to the side profile, the side profile gets a curvy overhang which is quite prominent. At the rear, we have connecting taillamps forming an H-shape.

The Stargazer launched in Indonesia comes with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine. We can expect the same on the Indian model. Additionally, the Indian model could get the 1.4-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine like the Carens. Transmission options could include manual and automatic gearboxes.

Interior and features

Inside the Stargazer, we get that typical Hyundai fit and finish. Hyundai has tried to use soft touch material at as many touch points as possible. At the centre, we have a floating infotainment system that extends into the instrument cluster. Also, the Stargazer comes with 6-seater and 7-seater options. What about the features? The Stargazer comes with Blue Link-connected car technology, wireless charging, and roof-mounted AC vents. The Indonesian Stargazer even comes with ADAS functionality. So will this come to India? Hyundai could bring it and set a benchmark in this segment.
