Maruti has recently given its sub-compact SUV a generation update. This upgrade brought a slew of changes that exemplified its overall appeal. Now, Maruti has again hit on the right spot by giving it the S-CNG bi-fuel technology and that too with an automatic gearbox. Let’s read in detail why India’s first automatic CNG car could be your next car!

What does it get?

New Maruti Brezza CNG would underpin the same Global-C platform which is known for its safety quotient. No changes are expected in its structural integrity, interior features and engine specifications. As this is just a CNG addition, minimal changes should be visible. What changes are expected? First of all, a 60L (water equivalent) CNG tank could be placed reducing its overall boot space of 328litres. Other than this, CNG telematics would be available on the MID (Multi Information Display) and you would spot the CNG switch on the dashboard.

Which variants will get CNG? Most probably like we have seen in other Maruti Suzuki Arena cars, Brezza CNG could also be seen in the ‘VXi and ZXi’ variants. What about pricing? Due to the addition of CNG kit, pricing is expected to mount by Rs 90,000 in their respective variants. Moreover, the launch can be expected mostly in the upcoming month.

What about specifications?

India’s very first automatic CNG car is likely to come with a torque convertor AT gearbox. This gearbox would be coupled to the eminent K15C 1.5- litre petrol engine. In the pure petrol Brezza, this engine produces a considerate 100 bhp whereas in the CNG mode the power could witness a downfall at 85bhp. This CNG configuration would be made available with the AT as well as the 5-speed manual gearbox. By adopting this strategy, the brand is offering more options for its already popular car. Moreover, if we talk about its suspension, Maruti could tweak it due to the additional tank weight on the rear.

The main reason for it to offer CNG its latest products (Brezza and Grand Vitara) could be its plan to conquer the SUV market. Maruti which was earlier known for its affordable hatchbacks is now willing to get better in the SUV sector.
