Compact SUVs are hogging the headlines, sales and many new buyers in the last few years. All manufacturers have an SUV in this segment barring Honda & some others. Honda for that matter completely missed the SUV hype leading to low sales. However, Honda seems to have understood its mistake and recently launched the WR-V in Indonesia. So will the WR-V come to India? In today’s article, let’s find out.

New WR-V India- Launch timeline

New WR-V India

Jumping straight to the main point, will it come to India? Honda has confirmed that it is working on a new compact SUV for the Indian market. However, there is no clarity if it’s this WR-V or a different India-specific car. Most likely, it has to be the WR-V; Honda will have to just shorten the length to fit in the sub-4m category. What about the launch? Honda could launch the WR-V sometime in mid-2023.

Design

New WR-V India

The new WR-V shares its platform with the Amaze sold in India. So unsurprisingly, it shares a lot of its mechanical bits with the Amaze. Overall the car looks quite modern with an aggressive grille and LED headlamps. The side profile is clean, with no major cuts and creases. What about the rear? The rear comes with comma shaped tail lamps.

New WR-V India – Specifications

The WR-V launched in Indonesia comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine capable of producing 119bhp & 145Nm. This engine comes mated to a CVT gearbox. For India, we expect a different engine to fit into the taxation laws of the country. In India, we could see the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated and 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine (rumored). This SUV might miss out on a diesel engine due to the upcoming emission norms.

Features

New WR-V India

Honda knows the importance of features and has loaded the WR-V with them. It comes with features like a 7.0-inch infotainment system, remote engine stop, 6 speakers, automatic AC, semi-digital instrument cluster etc. Safety-wise, it gets ABS with EBD, vehicle stability etc. Additionally, it also gets Honda sensing (Honda’s naming for ADAS). Could this come on the Indian model? We say it should come to India soon as Honda needs a high selling product now.
