In today’s modern world, car buying options have increased with many manufacturers focusing on SUVs. India has become an SUV-driven market where the sales of SUVs are seeing an increase in growth. Honda has brought some iconic products to the country in the past. Our buyers have given a lot of love to products like the City, Civic, and the CR-V. However, some of them faded away, leaving the brand with a void in the most lucrative SUV segments in the country. However, this is about to change. Honda is working on two new SUVs, one out of them being a mid-size rival. In today’s article, we discuss about this new Honda midsize SUV.
New Honda midsize SUV – Launch Timeline
Honda has to prioritize the development of its SUVs in India. It is testing some new cars in the SUV category that would be seen in the near future. As SUVs have become the new trend, Honda wants to catch up with the pace in the market. Initially, Honda would launch its compact SUV before this new mid-size SUV. This compact SUV would be based on the Amaze platform and is likely to borrow engines. The compact SUV segment being hot, this Tata Nexon rival would make its way before the midsize SUV, sometime next year.
So, we are expecting the midsize SUV to launch sometime in 2024. The pricing of the car is expected to be somewhere around Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom), justifying Honda’s build quality and refinement.
Features & specifications
Based on the new electronic architecture from Honda, this midsize SUV would also be able to fit an additional third row of seating. Honda is likely to cater varied set of buyers with this product. Honda could bring 6 & 7-seater versions of this car to also captivate MPV buyers. This could be a great move by the Japanese automaker targeting both 5-seater and 6/7-seater car buyers at the same time. What about features? All new-age features are expected to be made available in this car. The midsize SUV segment is largely biased by the feature list. So, maintaining a healthy list could be a pivotal factor for Honda to stay in line. The car could get a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, a digital instrument cluster, and more.
Talking about the engine options of this new SUV, it is touted to get similar engine options as the Honda City. Honda could plant the 1.5-litre petrol as well as the 1.5-litre diesel engine in the new SUV. Having a diesel engine would be a great boon for the SUV as some manufacturers are not offering it. Additionally, the power figures of both these engines could be enhanced to take on the extra load of the third row. Could it get a hybrid powertrain? Honda may bring hybrid version of this car for keeping the mileage numbers high, but pricing would be the key. Pricing the hybrid variants effectively could introduce more buyers to hybrid vehicles, which will ultimately help Honda as well.
