SUVs are the hottest trend in the Indian market. All manufacturers are bringing in new SUVs to tap into this growth. Even Nissan, a manufacturer that was almost on the verge of leaving India has showcased its new SUVs. But before it launches these cars, it could discontinue one SUV from its lineup. Unsurprisingly this SUV could be the Nissan Kicks. In today’s article, let’s talk about this Rs 12 lakh car.
Kicks as a product
The Kicks has been quite a competent product but has struggled in the sales chart. In October, Nissan sold only 242 units of the Kicks. With such sales figures, it doesn’t make sense for Nissan to continue with the Kicks. Why are the sales so slow? The major reason is that the car has gotten outdated and lacks features. But the biggest point could be that the car was famous amongst buyers for its 1.5-litre diesel engine that struck the perfect balance of efficiency and power. Sales of the car pointed straight at this if we look at the sales numbers before the car was discontinued.
Who will replace it?
Nissan showcased 3 cars in October and the Qashqai could be the car to come in and take the place of a big SUV for Nissan. It fits the bill with its dimensions and also gets a proper SUV-like design. The car has already been spotted testing in India. It will be interesting to see if the car is localized or bought to market via CKD route. The Qashqai gets decent features, power and is the correct size.

If launched the Qashqai will take on the likes of the Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and the Citroen C5 Aircross. We will not see this car anytime soon though.
