Nissan India is a brand that has seen mixed fortunes in the Indian market. It was on the ventilator until the Nissan Magnite arrived in December 2020. Though the Magnite is still going strong, Nissan is now looking to continue the momentum by bringing in more such SUVs. This week it unveiled the three new SUVs that it plans to bring to India. So what are some of the talking points from this event? In today’s article, let’s talk about these new Nissan cars.

Nissan’s big SUVs

As mentioned above, the Nissan Magnite has turned Nissan’s fortunes in India. However, before the Magnite, Nissan had other SUVs like the X-Trail and Terrano. So it is quite good to see that Nissan is once again foraying into the big SUV segment. This is not only beneficial for the brand but also for customers who get a wider range of choices in the market. The last big SUV that Nissan launched in India was the Kicks, which was 4 years ago.

e-POWER

With yesterday’s launch event, Nissan also introduced e-POWER technology. Considering the rising trend of electric hybrids in India, it is a step in the right direction for Nissan. So what is this e-POWER system? In this e-POWER system, the engine doesn’t directly power the wheels. Instead, the engine works as a generator to charge the batteries that power the motor that channel power to the wheels. As the engine is not directly connected to the axle, it could return good mileage figures.

New Nissan cars – Launch

Even though Nissan has revealed three SUVs, all of them might not make it to the Indian market. So what is Nissan’s plan? Nissan confirmed that it has started testing the X-Trail and Qashqai in India. Of this, X-Trail will be the first one to be launched in India. Coming to the Qashqai, it will be tested in India and Nissan will gauge public interest before launching it. What about the Juke? Nissan has not yet started the testing of the Juke. It wants to analyse it before bringing it to India.
