India’s most fuel-efficient CNG car is the Celerio, with a claimed mileage of 35.60 km/kg. The brand offers CNG in the ‘VXi’ variant of the car which is priced at Rs 7.51 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Under the hood, this car is powered by a 1.0-litre petrol engine that makes 55bhp and 82Nm of torque in CNG mode. However, if you wish to buy the Celerio CNG, you can only get it with a 5-speed manual. 

Maruti WagonR (34.05 km/kg)

WagonR kickstarted the tall boy design in India which is still imminent in the current generation model. The new generation also has a CNG variant that comes equipped with a 1.0-litre petrol engine (56bhp and 82Nm of torque in CNG mode). Available only with the 5-speed manual gearbox, it returns a claimed mileage of 34.05 km/kg.

CNG cars in India – Maruti S-Presso (32.73 km/kg)

Maruti S-Presso also gets the factory-fitted S-CNG technology. Powered by the same K10C 1.0-litre engine, it makes 55bhp and 82Nm of torque in CNG mode. Transmission options are limited to a 5-speed manual that return a claimed fuel economy of 32.73 km/kg. Moreover, it is offered in two variants -’ LXi’ priced at Rs 6.69 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) and ‘VXi’ priced at Rs 6.91 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Maruti Dzire (31.12 km/kg)

India’s highest-selling sedan is the Dzire. With a monthly sales volume of over 9,000 units, it has maintained a stronghold despite the obscurity in the sedan segment. Talking about the CNG variant of the car, it is available in VXi and ZXi variants. The powertrain is the same 1.2-litre petrol engine that makes 75bhp and 98Nm of torque in the CNG mode. It results in a claimed fuel efficiency of 31.12 km/kg. The pricing of the Dzire CNG starts at Rs 9.27 lakh (on-road, Mumbai)  and reaches Rs 10 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) for the ‘ZXi’.

CNG cars in India – Maruti Swift (30.90 km/kg)

Maruti has started to offer a bi-fuel CNG option with its fun-to-drive hatch -Swift. Available in two variants -VXi and ZXi, Swift CNG starts with a price tag of Rs 8.82 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Whereas, if you want more features like SmartPlay studio, automatic climate control, alloy wheels, keyless entry, etc then you should get the ‘ZXi’ which is priced at Rs 9.61 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The mileage of the Swift CNG is claimed at 30.90 km/kg.
