Maruti has introduced two new CNG cars under its premium NEXA dealerships. Now, with its ever-increasing CNG portfolio, the brand is catering for the demands of buyers who are looking for an economical alternative to EVs. NEXA’s highest-selling car – the Baleno now gets the CNG update which makes it the first CNG car in India that has 6 airbags. Moreover, the other car to receive the CNG update is the XL6 which is a premium iteration of the Ertiga. Let’s take a look at the new CNG car from NEXA.

NEXA CNG car – Maruti Baleno CNG

As aforementioned, the Baleno is the highest-selling NEXA car that comes equipped with 6 airbags. Now, with the introduction of CNG, it is the first ever car in India that offers CNG as well as 6 airbags. No doubt its sales figure would reach new heights increasing its popularity. Talking about the car, the CNG update has no changes to the exterior. However, on the inside, the biggest addition is the CNG tank eating up the 318-litres of boot space that the regular models offer. Other than that, the CNG fuel switch button is available on the dashboard.

What about the powertrain? It remains the same K-series 1.2-litre petrol (89bhp & 113Nm of torque) mill mated to the 5-speed manual gearbox only. However, the CNG mode would reduce its performance to 75bhp & 98Nm of torque. Also, it is claiming to return a mileage of 30.61kmpkg. Maruti has introduced the Baleno CNG in two variants – Delta which is priced at Rs 8.28 lakh (ex-showroom) and the Zeta is priced at Rs 9.21 lakh ( ex-showroom).

Maruti XL6 CNG

Maruti recently updated its XL6 with an extensive update. Now, with the updated model it has also introduced the CNG variant which was largely anticipated by its buyers. With this update, many buyers would now go for the XL6 who wanted a premium MPV with CNG. Just like the Ertiga, the CNG tank is placed behind the third row, taking majority of its boot space. However, Maruti has made the CNG available only in the base ‘Zeta’ variant which is priced at Rs 12.24 lakh (ex-showroom). This might be a bummer for some buyers as it lacks features like ventilated seats, TPMS, leatherette seats, a 360-degree camera, UV-cut glasses, and more.

Talking about its engine, it is powered by the same K15C 1.5-litre petrol engine (102bhp & 137Nm of torque) mated to a 5-speed gearbox. No automatic gearbox is made available here as well. However, in the CNG mode, the power drops marginally, with the MPV making 85bhp & 121Nm of torque. Mileage is claimed mileage of 26.32kgpkm in CNG mode.
