One product that everyone has been excitedly waiting for is the Maruti Jimny. There was a period when all that was available were speculations. There was a slight glimmer of hope that the Jimny 5-door would one day makes its way to the market, however, nothing concrete was available to support that. But, this changed a few months ago when the Jimny 5-door test mule was finally spotted testing. After that, new details have slowly emerged on a timely basis. Moreover, there have been multiple speculations about what engine would this lifestyle SUV come with, but no option can be confirmed for sure. Today, there has emerged a new contender that could possibly make its way to power the Jimny 5-door. In this article, let’s talk about new Maruti Jimny 5-door engine.

Maruti Jimny 5-door – what is this new engine?

Maruti Jimny 5-door engine

According to some latest reports, the Jimny 5-door could sport a Maruti-first 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine which is touted to produce 138bhp. This engine would come mated to the brand’s mild hybrid technology that is already available in cars like new Brezza, Ertiga, etc. This could be done to maintain a balance between power and fuel economy. There have been speculations about a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine making its way to the Jimny as well. This engine currently powers the Swift Sport which has been spotted testing in India. Now, with this new engine in line has resulted in a lot of confusion. Interestingly, this 1.4-litre turbo-petrol unit also produces 138bhp.

However, if we take into consideration the whole case, the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine would make more sense as Maruti already uses this engine in its top-selling products like the Brezza and the Ertiga/XL6. Coupling a turbocharger to an existing engine would be more cost-effective than manufacturing a completely new engine that would initially be used for a single product only. But, what do you think? Should Maruti use the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine or the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine? Do let us know in the comments.
