The Venue has solidified Hyundai’s hold on the compact SUV segment in India. In tandem with the Creta, the Venue pulls in good sales for the brand. As a product, the Venue has its USPs like its aggressive design and features. It also comes with a lot of engine & transmission options. However, now it could get better with a new diesel engine. In today’s article, let’s talk about the Hyundai Venue diesel which could get more powerful.

Some details of the i20 diesel

Before we talk about the Venue, let’s talk about the i20. A recent media report has stated that Hyundai will soon discontinue the diesel engine on the i20. Hyundai is looking to discontinue this engine due to the upcoming emissions norms and falling demand. Currently, the i20 comes with a 1.5-litre diesel engine capable of producing 98bhp & 250Nm of torque. This engine also comes on the Venue. Moreover, the Kia Sonet gets this diesel engine with its manual variants. However, the Kia Sonet automatic gets this engine in a different tune. This tune is shared with the Hyundai Creta & Kia Seltos.

So what can Hyundai do?

Hyundai will have to invest heavily to get this diesel engine in line with the upcoming emission norms. So it would make sense to just upgrade the 1.5-litre engine that it uses on the Creta. It will not make sense for the brand to invest so much in the 1.5-litre engine that it uses only in the current Venue. So the Venue could get a 1.5-litre engine like the Creta. This engine is capable of producing 113bhp & 250Nm of torque. With this engine, it could also get an automatic gearbox like the Kia Sonet.

Hyundai Venue diesel – When could this happen?

Hyundai might keep this engine till the BS6 Stage 2 norms kick in. When are they expected? Currently, the government has set a deadline of April 2023, so this could happen around the same time. However, all of this is just speculation, and Hyundai could just retune the current engine as well, keeping in mind its strategy for the Indian market.
