The Verna is an iconic nameplate in our market. Since its launch in 2006, it has gone from strength to strength. The Verna has enjoyed healthy sales competing with the Honda City. The current Verna is in its fifth generation and still doesn’t feel out of place. So then, why are we saying to not buy the Hyundai Verna in 2022? In today’s article, let’s find out.

Why?

Hyundai Verna 2022

The main reason to not consider the Verna now is that Hyundai is working on the new Verna. The new Verna has been spotted testing in South Korea and India. Also, the current Verna has started to feel a bit outdated. Yes, we did mention above that it doesn’t feel out of place, but newer competition cars like the Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus have upped the game. So Hyundai will be looking to soon bring in the new Verna.

Other expectations

The spy shots have revealed that the new Verna will be bigger than the current model. These bigger dimensions should translate into better second-row space and legroom. These points have been a major weakness of Verna. What about the engine options? The Verna is expected to continue with the current engine options. So we can expect a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine, 1.0-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine. However, there is an outside chance we could see the 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine on the new Verna. This engine will help the Verna to take on the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol of the Slavia and Virtus.

Feature-wise, we can expect some new features. Some expected features include a heads-up display, 360-degree camera and improved infotainment system. We could also see ADAS in the new Verna, considering the latest trends.

When can we expect the car? According to rumours, Hyundai could unveil the car in South Korea by the end of this year. For the Indian market, Hyundai could unveil it at the Auto Expo of 2023, with the launch expected to happen a few months after the Expo.
