7-seater cars have always been popular in India. All types of 7-seaters are in high demand, especially affordable ones like Maruti Ertiga and Kia Carens. In 2019, Renault tried its hand in this affordable category with the Triber. The Triber is a sub four meter car along with being the most affordable 7-seater in the market. So considering this, its sales should be quite good right? Sadly that is not the case. Its sales are decent at best when compared to cars like the Ertiga and Carens. So why is the Triber struggling? The main reason is the underpowered engine. So can Renault solve it? In today’s article, let’s talk about this Rs 7 lakh 7-seater.

Improved performance

Currently, the biggest weakness of the Triber is its underpowered engine. The Triber comes with a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated engine capable of producing 72bhp & 96Nm of torque (same engine as the Kwid). This engine on Triber feels adequate on flat roads or when the car is not fully occupied, but as soon as the engine is stressed, like on hills or when fully occupied, it struggles. So what can Renault do? Renault can give the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine that powers the Kiger. This engine is capable of producing 99bhp & 160Nm of torque, which will be ideal for the Triber. To sweeten the deal, Renault could also offer a CVT gearbox on this engine.

Rs 7 lakh 7-seater- Exterior changes

We don’t expect any radical changes on the outside, at most Renault, could change the headlight and tail lamp design. Other than this, Renault could give it some kind of turbo badging on the exterior and a new alloy wheel design. Renault could also add some new vibrant colours to the Triber lineup to enhance its look.

What else could change?

Like the exterior, we could see some changes in the interior. The Triber facelift could get a new dashboard layout with new upholstery and dual-tone interiors. What else can Renault add? It could give an infotainment and music system similar to Kiger. We could also see some new features like ambient lighting and wireless charging. However, Renault will have to strike a balance between the added features and cost.

There is no official confirmation from the brand regarding the Triber facelift. However, the Triber has remained the same since its launch in 2019, so we can expect a facelift in 2023. What about the pricing? Renault could play it safe here by introducing the turbo on the higher variants. This will help Renault to keep the starting price of the Triber affordable, while people needing more power and features could consider the higher variants.
