Maruti is launching one new car after another. However, it is yet to launch the most awaited car in India, the Jimny. That is also soon going to change as Maruti is testing the Jimny 5-door in India. The Jimny 5-door will be quite a unique product being a compact off-roader. However, Maruti can surprise everyone by also pitting it against the Mahindra Bolero. The Bolero is a workhorse in the commercial segment, and Maruti could look to disrupt its dominance here. In today’s article, let’s talk about Maruti Jimny 2022 to rival the Bolero.
How will Maruti do it?
As we all know, Maruti is working on the Jimny 5-door for India. However, before the 5-door version, a different Jimny was spotted in Europe. It was a three-door version, but with a longer wheelbase. Since then, the car has been in the news, but nothing concrete has happened yet. So why are we talking about this car? Maruti could launch this long-wheelbase version with the 5-door Jimny. The 3-door long wheelbase could cater to the commercial segment with the Jimny 5-door. Maruti has a decent amount of reach in the commercial segment with vehicles like the Eeco & Super Carry. Jimny could be the perfect competitor to the Bolero, which we will explain in the next part.
Why will Maruti do it?
The long wheelbase Jimny would provide the space needed in the commercial segment. Maruti can use the extra space for different modifications as per the needs of the customer. What about the cost dynamics? To compensate for the cost, Maruti could launch the 2WD variant, which has been rumoured even on the 5-door Jimny. Also, this Jimny could get the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine and not the 1.5-litre turbo petrol like the 5-door Jimny. It will offer lesser features than the 5-door Jimny.

As mentioned above, the Jimny has been spotted testing in India. Maruti is even testing it in Leh and Ladakh to possible test its capabilities. According to rumours, Maruti could unveil the Jimny at the Auto Expo of 2023. The launch happens a few months after the unveiling. Pricing-wise, it is a bit tricky to predict its pricing, but we can expect competitive pricing from Maruti.
