This Thar will be bigger than the three-door version which will offer more practicality. Recently, the Thar 5-door was even spotted testing. So when is it coming? As mentioned above, the Thar 5-door has been spotted testing. In both spy shots, the Thar 5-door looked quite similar to the three-door. The spied car doesn’t look like the production version and seems to be more of a prototype. What about its unveiling? According to rumours, Mahindra could unveil the Thar 5-door at the Auto Expo of 2023. The Auto Expo is going to happen in January 2023 with the launch expected to take place sometime in the second half of 2023. The Auto Expo would be the perfect opportunity for Mahindra to unveil this much-awaited SUV.
What do we know so far?
The Mahindra Thar 5-door will be positioned above the Thar 3-door. So we expect it to be more premium than the Thar 3-door. Will it get any design changes? We expect Mahindra to maintain the overall design but still give it some subtle changes. Recently, the front fascia of the Thar 5-door was spotted. Same headlamp and grille design as the three-door Thar was clearly visible. Other than that, we could expect some new features like a big infotainment system, a 360-degree camera, automatic climate control, wireless charging, etc. to enhance the premium quotient.
Specifications
The Thar 5-door is confirmed to be based on a modified version of the ladder-on-frame chassis. Mahindra uses this version on the newly launched Scorpio-N. The significance of this chassis is improved handling and stability. This will definitely help the Thar 5-door.
Now, let’s talk about engine options. The Thar 5-door is expected to get the same engine options as the Thar 3-door. So it will mostly come with a 2.2-litre diesel engine and a 2.0-litre petrol engine. Could Mahindra re-tune the engines? It will have to, considering the added weight of the Thar 5-door. Transmission options could include a manual and an automatic gearbox. It will also come with a 4×4 capabilities. According to rumours, Mahindra could also bring a 4×2 setup on the lower variants to keep the starting price in check.
