The SUV segment has seen a rapid rise in the last four to five years. Manufacturers which sensed this change early have benefited heavily. Even Kia being a new manufacturer, timed its launch perfectly with the Seltos. The Seltos launched amid much fanfare and gave the Hyundai Creta a run for its money. But, once the new-generation Creta was launched, it was quick to take back its crown. However, this time, Kia is working on the Seltos facelift. With this facelift, Kia is not only looking to take down Creta but also completely disrupt this segment. So, how will that happen? In today’s article, let’s talk about this Rs 12 lakh Kia SUV.
What do we know so far?
Kia has already launched the Kia Seltos facelift in South Korea. As a product, the Seltos doesn’t look outdated, but Kia nevertheless has given it a new look. The facelift gets a new DRL setup that cuts the grille in half. Kia has also updated the air dam and bumpers. The side profile is identical to the current model. At the rear, we have inverted L-shaped tail lamps with a connecting strip in the middle.
What about the interiors? The interiors also gets some significant changes like a single-piece instrument cluster with integrated touchscreen infotainment. Kia has also added more soft-touch material to the dashboard.
Rs 12 lakh Kia SUV – Specifications
The Seltos facelift will continue with the same engine options as the current model. So it will retain its 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine, 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine and 1.5-litre diesel engine. Could Kia re-tune the engine for more performance? There could be a possibility since Hyundai & Kia could bring it for their respective facelifts. The Seltos already comes with a variety of transmission options, and we expect Kia to retain all of them on the new Seltos.
Rs 12 lakh Kia SUV – Launch timeline
Kia has already launched the Seltos facelift in South Korea. However, the Seltos sold in South Korea is different from the Indian version. The good thing is that Kia is already testing the Seltos facelift in India. When can we expect the launch? Kia might unveil it at the Auto Expo of 2023. The launch may take place a few months after the unveil. In terms of pricing, it is expected to get a price hike of Rs 70,000 to Rs 80,000, depending upon variants.
Segment disruptor?
How can it disrupt the market? The Seltos is already a popular car in this segment, and these changes are expected to make it an even better package. If Kia can also add ADAS to the Indian version, it could become a complete package. While at it, Kia should also improve the safety standards of the car. Currently, safety is the major downside of the Seltos. These changes could make the Seltos one of the best cars in this segment.
