New premium SUV to dominate its segment?
The SUV segment has become the favorite amongst buyers at a global level. Currently, there are more SUVs on sale than any other car type. Though the sales of hatchbacks are still high, SUVs are slowly gaining pace and are reaching for the top spot. In addition, all manufacturers are jumping on the bandwagon to bring their own capable SUVs. There is one such manufacturer that is placing its bet on the SUV category only. The relatively-new French brand Citroen is well ahead in planning a new premium SUV in the market. What is this new premium Citroen SUV and how can it dominate its segment? New premium SUV – C5 Aircross facelift
Citroen’s first car in the country, the C5 Aircross is soon getting a facelift. Citroen positions the C5 in the premium SUV category against competitors like the Volkswagen Tiguan, Skoda Kodiaq, and the new-generation Hyundai Tucson. The C5 Aircross facelift has been launched in the European markets and it is coming in September to India. The C5 gets many significant changes that we discuss further.
New premium SUV – Tweaked design
The design has definitely been reworked for the facelifted model. The new one has opted for a more sophisticated design without blemishing its utilitarian look. The front look of the car has completely changed with a new set of bumpers, new headlamps, and grille. The new DRL setup now runs in line with the grille, giving it a continuous look. The new headlamps are also placed beside the grille unlike the split-setup in the ongoing car. Other than that, the car would likely get a new design for the alloy wheels and a redesigned tail lamp.
Features
Citroen has refreshed the interiors of the C5 Aircross in its latest facelift. The SUV has said to become more comfortable with an extra 15mm of seat cushioning for the front passengers. It also gets updated infotainment system with a 10-inch unit. Practicality and comfort would mount with features like wireless charging, ventilated seats, and additional USB. Moreover, the buttons inside the cabin are given the latest look, whereas the gear knob has been updated with a new toggle like switch gear.
Specifications
Citroen will mostly continue with the 2.0-litre diesel unit that the current C5 Aircross gets. This diesel engine is capable of making 174bhp & 400Nm of torque. Citroen doesn’t have any plans to bring a petrol unit for the bigger C5 Aircross. What about the gearbox? No changes are expected to be made to it. It will mostly continue with the 8-Speed AT gearbox for a comfort-oriented drive experience.
New premium SUV – Launch and Pricing
The competition has heated up due to the launch of the Hyundai Tucson. As mentioned above, Citroen is said to launch this SUV in September. Looking at the festive season ahead, it could be a great launch period. Moreover, Citroen is already expanding its dealer network in more than 15 cities to increase its sales. The Citroen C5 Aircross facelift could start from somewhere between Rs 33 lakh to Rs 35 lakh (ex-showroom).
