New Toyota SUV continues testing! Launch soon?

Toyota is a manufacturer that has a presence in multiple global countries. The brand is known for its reliable and practical products. In India, Toyota has been banking on the sales of Fortuner & Innova. However, with its partnership with Maruti, it has started bringing in newer products as well. Last month, it unveiled the Urban Cruiser HyRyder, a completely new product in a cut-throat segment. But, what is Toyota’s plan after the HyRyder? It could bring one of its global SUVs to India, the Yaris Cross. This product has been spotted testing in India on multiple occasions. In today’s article, let’s talk about this new Toyota SUV which has been spotted testing in India.

Design

The Toyota Yaris Cross comes with a very unique design. At the front, we have sharp-looking eye-shaped headlamps. Unlike other newer Toyota cars, the Yaris Cross comes with a small grille. It also comes with fog lamps and vertical LED DRLs. The side profile is compact with a tapering C-pillar. At the rear, we have blacked-out tail lamps with a connected strip in the middle.

Globally, the Yaris Cross comes with a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated engine paired with a strong hybrid system. Will this come to India? The chances are slim. Toyota could use the same engine options as the Baleno Cross. So, it can come with a 1.0-litre Booster Jet engine capable of producing 100bhp & 150Nm of torque. Instead of the strong hybrid, the Indian version could come with a mild hybrid setup. 

Features

Features have become an important point in the Indian market. Globally, the Yaris Cross comes with a plethora of features. It gets features like a heads-up display, a six-speaker audio system, a powered driver’s seat, a blind spot monitor, a 7.0-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto. What about safety? The Yaris Cross comes with eight airbags, rear & front parking sensors, Toyota Safety Sense (ADAS), etc. Will all these features come to India? We don’t think so, but some of them might make their way to the Indian market, especially the features like HUD, rear & front parking sensors, etc.

Toyota is yet to confirm anything about the Yaris Cross, but the Yaris Cross has been spotted several times in testing. Like the Baleno Cross, we expect Toyota to bring the Yaris Cross to India as well. The Yaris Cross will sit below the HyRyder in the affordable segments. What about the pricing? We expect the Yaris Cross to start from Rs 9 lakhs (ex-showroom). It will face no competition in this segment, barring its upcoming Maruti sibling, the YTB.
