Volkswagen’s first fully-electric crossover SUV for the world, the ID.4 is expected to see an India launch sometime in 2023. This EV is based on the brand’s MEB platform. Volkswagen plans to bring the ID.4 through the CBU route, so we can expect the pricing to be north of Rs 50 lakh. Features like a big touchscreen infotainment system, ambient lighting, massaging seats, and more will be on offer. Power-wise, the ID.4 comes with two battery packs (single motor & dual motor) in foreign markets. Which configuration comes to the Indian shores, only time will tell. The ID.4 has taken the brand to top spots in global EV sales.

Compact SUV

Volkswagen and Skoda are in collaboration in India for quite some time now. Skoda, which leads this collaboration has been planning a compact SUV under the Rs 10 lakh price range for India along with some foreign developing markets. Therefore, Volkswagen can launch its version of this compact SUV by borrowing design styles from other modern Volkswagens. This new compact SUV would be under four-metres and would compete with the likes of Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, etc. The ubiquitous 1.0-liter turbo-petrol unit that we have seen in other Volkswagen-Skoda cars could carry out performance duties in this one as well. The launch of this new SUV is rumoured to happen by early 2024.

Upcoming Volkswagen cars – Affordable EV

Volkswagen is also planning an affordable EV for India. Pricing would be the main USP as Volkswagen would be using its MEB platform. The biggest benefit of this platform and the ecosystem associated with it is its ability to keep the costs in check. This new EV would also be sold in other developing markets. Pricing could start from somewhere between Rs 12 to Rs 15 lakhs.
