Affordable Maruti performance car in the works?
Maruti Suzuki’s extensive portfolio has led the brand to sit pretty at the top position in the country. Planning to have a car in almost every segment, Maruti is all geared up to launch even more products for the buyers. By looking at current cars from the brand, we are sure to say that Maruti is coming along with its competitors by offering segment-leading features like 360-degree camera, HUD, etc. Along with technology, Maruti also has other areas to look after. One of them could be the affordable performance hatchback segment. Maruti has been testing a product, the Swift Sport in India for some time now. Could this hatchback from Maruti be the latest affordable performance car to come to India? Let’s discuss in this article.
New Swift Sport
Maruti Suzuki has been testing the Swift Sport in India for quite a few months now. The car is already well-known for its driving dynamics and handling and bringing in an even-sportier version could disrupt the market completely. Although, India has been a nascent market for performance vehicles, Maruti might change that by offering a peppy engine in the Swift. This could be an affordable option for buyers who are looking for some performance under a budget.
Design & Specifications
This Maruti performance car would against the i20 N Line, so we could expect some feisty changes on the exterior & interior. The Swift looks sporty enough with features like pillar-integrated rear door handles, all-black interiors, and a red-themed instrument cluster. The Swift Sport takes it a step further thanks to a sporty body kit with a rear diffusor housing dual exhausts. The test car also sat on 17-inch wheels, accentuating the appeal but would it be available is the question as we don’t have smooth tarmacs everywhere.
Under the hood, powering the front wheels of the car is the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine which produces 138bhp & 230Nm of torque. We are skeptical whether the AMT gearbox could make its way to this one as it is highly likely to get a 5-speed manual only.
Affordable Maruti performance car – Launch & Pricing
The test mule of the Swift Sport have been spotted on the Mumbai-Pune expressway with the ARAI badging on quite a few occasions. So there are chances that Maruti may bring the much-awaited Sport model. Another perspective could also be the testing of the new 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine which will power the upcoming Jimny 5-door. The launch of the Swift sport is still on the fence so we could just wait for any official action from Maruti. Talking about the pricing, Maruti would price this premium across the standard car and could only offer it in select top variants.
