Tata Motors is enjoying great sales momentum. It has barged its way into the top 3 manufacturers list. But Tata would definitely be aiming for a higher spot. Its cars like the Nexon and Punch are doing exceptionally well, but Tata needs cars like the Altroz and Tiago to do better as well. So what can Tata do with the Altroz? It has several options like an EV or a CNG. Now new details have hinted that the Altroz CNG could be on the cards. In today’s article, let’s talk about the Tata Altroz CNG.

Why CNG?

Currently, the Altroz comes with two petrol engines and a diesel engine option. However, the efficiency figures are nothing to write much about. Off late, fuel efficiency is gaining importance due to the rising fuel prices. Even though fuel efficiency has never been Tata’s strong point, it still needs to work on it. So, what can Tata do about it? Tata could launch its i-CNG on the Altroz. If Tata times it perfectly, it can launch the Altroz CNG before Maruti brings the Baleno CNG, giving it a head start. Recently, a Tata Altroz CNG was spotted testing as well.

Other than the added CNG tank, what other changes could the Altroz CNG get? We don’t expect any major changes, barring the i-CNG badging on the exterior. Only the boot will be compromised due to the CNG tank. What about specifications? Tata could mostly offer the CNG with the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine capable of producing 85bhp & 113Nm of torque. Power figures could drop a bit due to CNG. However, Tata being Tata will integrate its seamless CNG technology to this hatchback as well.

Launch timeline

There is no official confirmation from Tata regarding the Altroz CNG, but the Altroz was recently spotted with an emission kit and an ARAI sticker on it. This is a major hint that Tata could launch the Altroz CNG sooner than expected. What about the price hike? We can expect a price hike of Rs 70,000 to Rs 90,000 depending upon variants.
