Honda compact SUV – new details out!

Honda has always been an aspirational brand in India. The brand over the years has given multiple cars that owners still cherish. However, the last few years have been tough for the brand due to dwindling sales. But Honda only has themselves to blame for this issue. The brand did not sense the changing mindset of buyers regarding sedans. They moved to SUVs, while Honda was stuck with its sedans. Thankfully, Honda now knows that it has to adapt to this change by bringing in new SUVs. It is working on a compact SUV, and new details of this car have surfaced online. In today’s article, let’s talk about Honda’s compact SUV and the latest details regarding its launch.

New details

According to a Japanese report, Honda plans to debut the compact SUV in the spring of 2023. This means that the launch could happen sometime between March and June next year. What about the India launch? We could expect it sometime before the festive season of 2023. According to the same report, the compact SUV could be based on the Jazz platform. Earlier reports had indicated that it could be based on the Amaze platform. So it is difficult to be sure of anything. Globally, Honda is planning to bring a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine for this new SUV. There is also a possibility of a 1.5-litre strong hybrid system like the City Hybrid.

Honda compact SUV launch – India specifications

In India, Honda has two petrol and one diesel engine options. The petrol options consist of a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated unit a and 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated unit. The 1.2-litre engine could feel underpowered, and the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated would mean to give away the tax benefits. What could Honda then do? It could bring the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine to India. Honda could also give the 1.5-litre option, giving up on the tax benefits like Maruti does with the Brezza. The diesel engine would continue to be the 1.5-litre unit. Both the engines will mostly come with manual and automatic gearbox options.
