Honda is one manufacturer that failed to maintain its pace with the changing market. It continued with its sedans only, even when the market was shifting to SUVs. This strategy has cost Honda dearly, as it has slipped to the 8th spot in the sales chart. Thankfully, Honda has finally woken from the long slumber and is working on some new SUVs, especially for the market here. Seeing the growth of seven-seaters, Honda is also working on a seven-seater SUV. In today’s article, we will be talking about this Honda 7-seater SUV and everything that we expect from it.

What do we know about the mid-size SUV?

Honda 7-seater SUV

Honda’s mid-size SUV will be based on the brand’s new electronic architecture. Honda is evaluating both 6-seater and 7-seater options for this SUV. Bringing a mid-size SUV makes more sense for the brand since they will be able to target both 5-seater & 6/7-seater rivals with the same product. This SUV could share its engines with the Honda City. It could thus get the 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine and the 1.5-litre diesel engine. The availability of the diesel engine could be a big plus point for this SUV. However, we expect the engines to undergo some sort of re-tuning since it will be carrying more load because of the added seating capacity and nobody would like an underpowered Honda.

Will it get a hybrid setup? We can expect that considering Honda recently launched the City Hybrid in India. However, the brand would have to keep the pricing in check, otherwise it will not be long before the SUV moves out of the ‘value-for-money’ zone. What about features? We expect Honda to load this SUV with features like a big touchscreen infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, digital instrument cluster and much more. Will it get ADAS? It certainly should, considering most new cars are either coming or are set to come with ADAS functionality.

Another strategy – Honda compact SUV

We have majorly talked about the mid-size SUV, but Honda’s current priority is a compact SUV. This SUV will be based on the Amaze platform and will most probably get the same engine options. What about features? The features could also be carried forward from the Amaze. Recently, a similarly-sized SUV was spotted. We have written a detailed article on that for you to check out below.

Honda has prioritised the development of the compact SUV as mentioned above. This makes sense as this segment is one of the most profitable segments in the Indian market. According to reports, the compact SUV will be launched sometime next year. So what about the mid-size SUV? The mid-size SUV could be launched sometime in 2024. As far as pricing is concerned, we expect Honda to charge a slight premium over the competition which will be compensated by better quality from the Japanese brand. We expect the pricing to start from somewhere around Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom).
