Currently, SUV is the hottest body type in the market. Honda missed out on the party by not launching proper SUVs in India, continuing being reliable on its sedans like the City and Amaze. These sedans, for their part are doing decently but the market has moved on from sedans to SUVs. Thankfully, Honda has learned that it cannot continue with the old strategy. So it has started working on two new SUVs with one of them being a compact SUV based on the Amaze platform. Last year, Honda gave us a glimpse of what its SUVs could look like with the RS concept. Today, new images believed to be the production version of this concept have surfaced online. So is this the much-awaited Honda Nexon rival? Let’s find out.

What do the spy shots reveal?

The spy shots of the car were posted on Autonetmagz’s Instagram handle. So what do the spy shots reveal? The front of the car looks quite similar to the concept car. We see a big grille with a chequered chrome design and sliver faux skid plate. Headlamps get a sharp curvy design with the DRLs splitting the headlamp. What about the side profile? The spy shots don’t reveal the side profile, but we expect the sharp design to be continued on this part. Coming to the rear, we see inverted L-shaped tail lamps, rear wiper and silvered-out element on bumper. Although, by the looks of it, it does look like the RS SUV concept-inspired vehicle but we will get a better idea once the complete side profile is revealed.

More information

Honda Nexon rival

According to earlier reports, Honda is using an updated version of the PF2 platform that underpins the Amaze. So will it share its engine options with the Amaze? It could get the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine options. Honda might however have to give the 1.2-litre petrol some kind of assistance with a turbocharger in order to boost the power figures. What about features? Features could also be shared with the Amaze. We can expect features like big infotainment, an electric sunroof, LED headlamps, a semi-digital instrument cluster, connected car tech, etc. Betting big on features could really prove to be beneficial for the Japanese carmaker.

There are also rumours that Honda could replace the WR-V with this SUV. Once launched, it will rival cars like the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger and Kia Sonet.
