SUVs are gaining quite a popularity in the country due to their USPs such as commanding seating position, high ground clearance, and bold road presence. If you are one of those who likes all of these perks, then you should continue reading this. Indian carmaker Mahindra is already known for its domination in the SUV segment in the country. Mahindra is rolling high with the success of its XUV700 & Scorpio-N and the company is soon planning to enter the electric SUV space. Today we are going to talk about the brand’s upcoming Rs 18 lakh SUV and why you should wait for it.

Mahindra XUV400

Rs 18 lakh SUV

To compete with the highest-selling electric car in the country, Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra is bringing the XUV400. This electric SUV is basically the electrified version of the XUV300, however, with no modifications done to the original Tivoli platform, unlike the XUV300, which had to be shortened to fit in the sub-four-metre category.

Rs 18 lakh Mahindra SUV – Specifications

Talking about the Mahindra XUV400, it could come with a single motor setup that could churn out somewhere around 150bhp. Mahindra could offer the XUV400 in two trims in which the more expensive variants could come with a bigger battery pack to offer higher range figures. It is expected to deliver a real-world range of around 300km to 350km with the bigger battery pack and around 200km to 250km with the standard pack. Mahindra might be looking to take on the Nexon EV Prime as well as the Nexon EV Max, along with MG ZS EV & Hyundai Kona EV.

Design

As mentioned above, dimensions of this car will be bigger than the XUV300. Moreover, this EV will be longer than the Nexon EV as well and will measure around 4.2-metres. This would mostly be done to house the batteries as well as offer extra boot space, something that the XUV300 definitely takes a beating for. Moving on to the styling of the car, it is expected to go through some design upgrades. We expect to see a closed-off grille. Slightly reworked headlamps & tail lamps will also be present.

Moving over to features, the XUV400 could be heavily-equipped with some new-age features like ADAS, connected car tech, wireless charging, etc. Once launched, it is expected to go head to head with the Tata Nexon EV Prime, Tata Nexon EV Max & MG ZS EV. Mahindra being a late entrant will have to price it competitively to attract buyers. We expect a starting price tag of around Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom). Could it be priced lower? What do you think?
